It’s the first Wednesday of the month! The month of August is National Back to School month. This is the last month of summer, so why not pack in as many local festivities as you can. Here is our weekly calendar of events in Long Beach.
Movies On the Beach or Park:
For the sixth consecutive year, Alfredo’s Beach Club is proud to bring you FREE Moonlight Movies on the Beach on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Plenty of FREE popcorn and parking! A full BBQ dinner menu as well as snacks will be available for purchange. Movies on the Beach start at dusk (approximately 8:00 p.m.)

REG’s FREE Family Film Festival:
REG has planned a fun-filled summer of select movies for kids and parents. Regal has proudly offered this free summer fun since 1991. Oh, did we mention that it’s FREE! Selected G or PG movies start at 10:00 am every Tuesday and Wednesday during the festival. Tickets and seating are first-come, first-serve and are limited to theatre capacity. First Fridays Long Beach:
The mission of First Fridays is to promote and support local artists and musicians by providing them with an outlet to showcase their work. Every first Friday night of the month, participating Bixby Knolls businesses will unite to promote local artisits and musicians through extended operating hours. In doing so we hope to encourage a dialogue between businesses, artists, and the community. We want people to walk, talk, look, discoverand experience the Knolls. Funk Fest Summer & Music 2010:
Funk Fans listen up! The second annual Long Beach Funk Festival – a crescendo of the city’s summer-long, free concert series Summer And Music(SAM) – is scheduled to his the streets of downtown Long Beach in full force on Saturday, August 7, 2010. At the intersection of Pine and Broadway Avenues – within walking distance of hundreds of local attractions, fine filling stations, cafes and pubs – the nation’s most respected funk performers will grove once again and stitch together the diverse fabric of Long Beach with music. Las year, 15,000 funky folks flocked the scene to witness funk legends Madreill, Dawn Silva and The Meters’ Experience, among many others.

30 Minute Beach Clean Up:
Advocate Community Service and being “Green” for the next generation! Every third Saturday of every month at 10 a.m., rain or shine. Meet on the beach at 1 Granada Ave. in the Belmont Shore area of Long Beach to help rid the beach of trash and debris. Free parking, bags, gloves, refreshments, door prizes, and volunteer credit forms. Just show up.
