Scanning the shelves at your local video store or scouring the internet for something to watch this weekend? Summer is here, why not try one of these classic summer themed films to help enhance the summer experience. These classic films are sure to get your bellies laughing and your feet ready to hit the beach. Sorry, suntan oil not included. Here are some picks from our staff members… Shag (1989) - Summer of 1963. Carson is getting married to her boyfriend so her friends Melaina, Pudge and Luanne take her to Myrtle Beach for one last irresponsible weekend. Stand By Me (1986) - 4 young friends set out on an adventure. Geordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern go looking for the missing body of a local teenager - found by a gang of older boys. A story of boys hanging out and growing up. Animal House (1978) - Larry Kroger (Tom Hulce) and Kent Dorfman (Stephen Furst) are freshman in college in 1962 and want to join a fraternity. After visiting the Omega house and finding themselves unwanted, Kent suggests they try the Delta house. Larry claims that Delta "is the worst house on campus," but Kent feels that since he had a relative who was a former Delta, they should be able to get in. Summer Rental (1985) - Jack Chester, an overworked air traffic controller, takes his family on vacation to the beach. Things immediately start to go wrong for the Chesters, and steadily get worse. Jack ends up in a feud with a local yachtsman, and has to race him to regain his pride and family's respect. One Crazy Summer (1986) - With a name like Hoops McCann, he's bound to get that basketball scholarship after high school, right? Wrong! What Hoops really wants to do is write and illustrate a love story. To help him find his way, his friend George invites Hoops to come with him and his sister to spend the summer on Nantucket. Hot Shots (1991) - Topper Harley, a top gun fighter pilot, is recalled to serve on the SS Essess. Topper's mission is to destroy Saddam Hussein's nuclear plants. Unfortunately, Topper is psychologically imbalanced and is sure to crack under pressure. We are always open to feedback! Please send us your picks for classic summer movies.
